Soy wax is made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into small slivers. The oil is then extracted from these small slivers and hydrogenated.

The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids into the form of saturated fats. This process dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, allowing it to solidigy at room temperature.
